Client Brief
Capability X, A leading technology and consulting firm dedicated to delivering innovative solution commissioned SLD to develop an over vehicle height warning system to alert car carrying truck drivers if their load exceeded the height restriction. The car carrying trucks are involved in the loading/unloading of vessels. Two over height warning systems were required; one installed on the wharf and one at the vessel entry ramp.
Assessment
The client had very specific requirements of each system. Both systems were to be easily relocatable and height adjustable to 4 mtrs, the vessel mounted system was not to impede travel through the narrow ramped vessel entry. The wharf based system was designed to fit to our steel relocatable bases allowing for easy movement by forklift. The system is height adjustable by two directional
System Overview – Relocatable Vehicle Over Height Warning System:
The wharf based system was designed to fit to our steel relocatable bases allowing for easy movement by forklift. The over height warning system is height adjustable by two directional winch. The relocatable, post mounted transmitter beam is placed directly opposite, at the same height as the relocatable, post mounted reflector. When the beam between these two posts is broken, a wireless signal is sent to the relocatable, post mounted, solar charged LED light bar and static warning sign animating the LEDs, advising the driver the vehicle it is over height. Maximum distance between the transmitter control box and the LED’s control box is 100mtrs
System overview – Magnetic vehicle over height warning system:
The vessel bases system is designed to magnetically hold the transmitter beam and reflector in place on the steel frame of the vessel entry ramp. The relocatable, magnetic mounted transmitter beam is placed directly opposite and at the same height as the magnetic, post mounted reflector. When the beam between these two points is broken, a wireless signal is sent to the relocatable, tripod mounted, LED light bar and static warning sign animating the LEDs, advising the driver the vehicle it is over height. Maximum distance between the transmitter control box and the LED’s control box is 100mtrs.

The over height warning system fulfilled the clients detailed specification with a noticeable reduction in over height vehicle damage.
